Whether you’re a seasoned poet wanting to improve your stage presence or someone curious about starting to write and perform poetry, this hands-on session with local spoken word artist Ollie Rankin (@thePoetHeckler) is packed with tips for writing, practicing and performing slam poetry:

• Writing for impact and entertainment
• Writing memorable poetry—for you and the audience
• Rehearsing and memorizing
• Projecting confidence (and your voice)
• Engaging the audience—with or without memorizing your work

Participants are encouraged (but not required) to bring along their own work—whether in progress or finished.

The workshop takes place at the Summerland Library on Main Street on Saturday March 21st, from 2-5pm. Then, on Monday March 30th, all participants are invited to perform their poems at Detonate Brewing to a supportive crowd.
